The gastrointestinal tract of livestock is a highly intricate microbial ecosystem, consisting of numerous microorganisms with distinct functions and dynamics. These microorganisms play a crucial role in maintaining the health of the host, as well as in nutrient utilization and performance.
Our group is dedicated to exploring the phylogenetic and functional characteristics of this complex microbiome that colonizes the digestive tract of livestock. To achieve this, we utilize microbiome analysis methods, such as culturing, metabolomics, and metagenomics approaches.
Our primary research objectives are to gain a comprehensive understanding of the key organisms involved in the fundamental functions of the digestion process, as well as to identify shifts in the microbial community in response to host nutrition, genetics, and immunology.
